This year’s Brisbane Taiwanese Film Festival opens with the latest epic from Pili Puppet Theater, “Demigod: The Legend of Su”, which swept three Golden Horse Awards and is beloved by Taiwanese audiences everywhere. Don’t miss the fantastical coming-of-age adventure of young Su Huan-jen!

War may feel distant, but documentary director Hong Chun-Hsiu brings us to Kinmen, a place long held in military sensitivity. Starting from a visit to an old photo studio, “Souvenir from Kinmen” lifts the mysterious veil of Kinmen for us.

Paris-based female documentary filmmaker Chen Hui-Ling spent ten years crafting “A Letter to My Grandma” like a work of art. Through the collective stories of its characters, this film builds a shared memory—this is the story of the Taiwanese people!

Wrapping up the festival is “GAGA”, which won Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress at the 2022 Golden Horse Awards, and was selected for this year’s Sydney Film Festival. This rare Indigenous film radiates warmth and authenticity, with both the director and cast coming from strong Indigenous backgrounds. Full of laughter, tears, and reflection, it’s the purest and most genuine Taiwanese film you won’t want to miss.
