2024 Taiwan Film Festival in Brisbane is set to kick off with the theme “Crossing Boundaries”, showcasing five Taiwanese feature and documentary films. This year’s festival has invited Taiwanese artist Wu Hsun-Chih, who previously lived in Australia, to create the main visual — a hand-drawn design featuring the Formosan black bear and the Australian koala. The artwork has been used for festival promotion and ticket designs, sparking a strong response from audiences.

Held at Hoyts Cinemas in Sunnybank Plaza, the Brisbane Taiwan Film Festival will screen five films: two feature films — Detention Class and Bad Boy — and three documentaries — Jump! Men, The Southern Lonely Railway, and A Goldbloom.

Wu’s hand-drawn main visual, starring “Ollie” the Formosan black bear and “Collie” the Australian koala, depicts the two characters meeting outside the “Formosa Grand Theatre” beside a temple. The temple’s dragon pillars are cleverly adorned with both the Australian and Taiwanese flags. This charming and playful design has captured the attention and admiration of festival-goers.
